Nata il 3 luglio 1996 a Blainville, Québec, Canada, di padre italiano e di madre canadese, Kelly Chiavaro, portiere del Emek Hefer WFC, ha rilasciato in esclusiva ai nostri microfoni di Calcio Femminile Italia alcune parole per raccontare il suo calcio e la scelta del suo arrivo in Israele.
Ciao Kelly, innanzitutto, come stai?
“Ciao, tutto bene, anche se qui in Israele, come nel resto del mondo, non è consigliabile uscire molto da casa per via della pandemia”.
Complimenti per la vittoria dell’ultima gara in campionato per 2-0 contro l’Hapoel Ra’anana. Ora siete a 10 punti in classifica. Dove volete arrivare?
“L’obiettivo è di arrivare primi in classifica a fine stagione, così da poter giocare la Women’s Champions League la prossima stagione. È la prima volta che vengo in Europa e la Champions è un sogno che vorrei raggiungere per poter affrontare squadre di altri paesi”.
Sei da poco passata dagli USA all’Israele. Che effetto ti ha fatto questo passaggio e perché hai voluto farlo?
“Sono felicissima. Non avendo esperienze extra continentali, la mia agenzia, la Unik Team, e il mio agente, Arkaitz Coca, mi hanno consigliato di iniziare la carriera da professionista. Così la prima opportunità che mi è arrivata è stata l’Israele”.
Su cosa si basa il sistema di gioco delle squadre israeliane?
“In Israele sono molto più tecnici in quanto le giocatrici non sono enormi, cosa che ho trovato diverso sin da subito rispetto agli USA da cui provengo. Negli States infatti giocamo più sul fisico. L’Israele è più simile al Canada, anche lì sono più tecnici”.
Sei diplomata in scienze della psicologia e del cervello. Quanto i tuoi studi influiscono sul tuo lavoro da calciatrice?
“Tantissimo, perché in una squadra professionistica si ha la capacità di poter comprendere come star meglio in salute e anche mentalmente e posso applicare questi studi anche su me stessa”.
Idolo calcistico?
“Sono portiere e il mio calciatore preferito non posso che dire sicuramente Gianluigi Buffon. Non a caso in squadra il mio soprannome è Gigi”.
Quanto è seguito il calcio femminile in Israele?
“È abbastanza seguito, anzi i tifosi aumentano sempre più. Questo è dovuto soprattutto ai social media come Facebook ed Instagram. Anche la Tv gioca un ruolo importante, ma c’è ancora molto da lavorare su questo. Non tutte le squadre hanno un sito Internet o una pagina social.
Allo stadio spesso vengono i familiari a vedere le ragazze e questo fa sicuramente molto piacere”.
Sogno che vuoi raggiungere in carriera?
“Giocare per la nazionale italiana. Avendo la doppia nazionalità posso farlo. Inoltre vorrei approdare in Italia per giocare in un club della serie A.
Pur giocando in Israele ed essendo nata in Canada, ho il cuore italiano grazie a mio padre che proviene dalla città di Campobasso. Infatti alla gara valida per le qualificazioni al prossimo Europeo tra Italia ed Israele del 24 febbraio, tiferò le azzurre”.

Hi Kelly, first of all, how are you?
“Hi, everything is good, even if here in Israel, as in the rest of the world is not advisable to wxit outside because of the pandemic”.
Compliments for the winning at the last match in championship for 2-0 against Hapoel Ra’anana. Now you are at 10 points in ranking. Where do you want to arrive?
“The goal is to arrive first at the end of the season, because of we can play the Women’s Champions League next season. It’s the first time I come to Europe and the Champions is a dream I would like to achieve to face up to teams of others countries”.
You have recently passed from the USA to Israel. What effect did this step have on you and why did you want to do it?
“I’m very happy. Without extra continental experiences, my agency, Unik Team, and my agent Arkaitz Coca, recommended me to start the career as a professional. So the first opportunity that arrived to me was Israel”.
On what is based the system of game of Israeli teams?
“In Israel they are more technical because players aren’t so big, thing that I have found immediately different compared to the USA where I come from. In the States in fact, we played more physically. Israel is more similar to Canada, there too are more technical”.
You are graduated in Psychological and Brain Sciences. How much your studies influences on your work as footballer?
“A lot, because in a professional team we have the capacity to understand how to be better in health and mentally too and I can apply these studies even on myself”.
Football idol?
“I’m keeper and my favorite footballer I cannot say for sure Gianluigi Buffon. It’s not a case if my nickname in the team is Gigi”.
How much is women soccer followed in Israel?
“It is quite popular; indeed, the fans are increasing more and more. This is thanks above of all to social media like Facebook and Instagram. Also, the TV plays an important role, but there’s still a lot to work about this. Not all the teams have a website or a social page.
At the stadium even familiars come to see girls, and this is good for us”.
Dream you want to achieve in career?
“To play for Italian national team. Having the double nationality, I can do that. In more, I’d like to play in Italy to play with a serie A club.
Even if I play in Israel and I was born in Canada, I’ve an Italian heart thanks to my father who comes from the city of Campobasso. In fact, at the match valid for the qualifications at the next Europeans between Italy and Israel of the 24th February, I will support for the azzurre”.
